Chelmsford and Basildon have none; Southend's is a mile out in Westcliff. Where there is no clinic, Elixir Health runs booked days at venues — and a venue page exists only once a day is booked.

Where the clinics are — and are not

Brentwood, Colchester, Laindon, Loughton, Rainham and Westcliff have clinics. Chelmsford, Basildon town do not; Southend's is in Westcliff, a mile from the centre. Nor do Harlow or Braintree. Those are the towns Elixir Days are for — a golf club, an employer with a night shift, a room that already exists — and each gets its own page on the day it is booked, not before.

How Essex is different

Two of the county's own private blood-testing operators will not tell you a price until you telephone. One posts samples to a laboratory from inside a gym and takes five to seven days. Publishing the price, and giving you the number before you leave the room, is most of what it takes to be different here.
