How often should you retest?

A plain answer, with the qualification attached.

For the markers in Elixir Health panels, eight to twelve weeks is the interval at which a change in diet, supplementation or training becomes visible in the number — ferritin, vitamin D, folate and HbA1c all move on roughly that timescale. Retesting sooner mostly measures noise. Retesting once a year measures a different person.

Why twelve weeks

HbA1c reflects the previous two to three months by definition. Ferritin and vitamin D respond to a change over weeks, not days. A second measurement at twelve weeks on the same analyser is the smallest interval at which the difference is likely to be real.

What a retest is for

A baseline is only useful because it moves. The second bar on the chart is the reason the first one was worth taking.

How we do it

You can book the retest before you leave, and the only message you will get about it is a reminder of the appointment you booked — date, time and place. We do not send "time to retest" prompts chosen on the basis of a result, and we never will. Why that matters.

Elixir Health is a point-of-care measurement service. Samples are analysed at the venue and never sent to a laboratory. A single measurement on a single day is not a diagnosis. Elixir is not a clinic or a pharmacy. 18+.
